How Tournaments work
A Tournament organizes a bounded activity into staged matchups. Its published format determines how participants enter, how pairings progress, what each match records, and how the activity closes.

The tournament lifecycle

Publish one format
The organizer chooses a supported structure, participant limit, schedule, evidence rules, and decision method before the bracket begins.

Lock the eligible field
Invitations, applications, or registration produce the participant set used to create the staged matchups.

Advance through recorded matches
Each match follows the published decision path. Later stages depend on earlier recorded outcomes rather than an organizer editing the bracket by hand.

Handle exceptions explicitly
A cancellation, forfeit, dispute, or correction uses its own authorized action so the record shows what changed and why.

Close the activity
Completion preserves the final stage and the exact bounded result the terms authorized. It does not create a universal ranking.
A bracket is not a judgment of worth
A Tournament result belongs to its published task, format, participants, and time. It should not be stretched into a claim about a person outside that context.
